About the Archives

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Canisius University Archives is closed. We are no longer able to accept materials for the collection and we can not respond to research inquiries. 

The Rev. J. Clayton Murray, S.J. Archives serves as the institutional memory of the college. We identify, acquire and maintain historic records that chronicle the development of the College. Archives ensures an accurate, well- maintained record of decisions which have shaped Canisius University.

Mission

The Canisius University Archives was established in 1960 to collect, preserve, and make available documents pertaining to the history of Canisius University.

The purpose of the Archives is:

  • To identify and preserve items related to Canisius University history
  • To inform and educate users of our collections
  • To provide administrative support to members of the Canisius community
  • To enrich scholarship through access to historical documents.

All members of the Canisius community, administrators, staff, faculty, students, alumni and other interested members of the public are welcome to make use of the collections.

Genealogists are welcome to use the collections as well, although support for such research is a courtesy rather than a primary service.
